Love Letter From The Future
Dear Creative Rebels.
Hope this message finds you well
Interpret my words however you like, but tribalism and superiority complexes only work in two places: middle school and the desert. Last I checked, we’re civilized adults, so don’t let anyone scare you with their 'tribe' name, made up titles, or loud threats. And as the saying goes "barking dogs seldom bite"
Never be afraid to stand up for yourself and speak out publicly. Some people care more about protecting their image than correcting their wrongdoing. Even if they attempt to intimidate you with empty legal threats or a call from an overly aggressive lawyer who seems better suited for a gang than a “media agency,” hold your ground.
And when the threats don't work, they’ll beg you to back off and delete what you said about them, And again not because they want to make things right, but because it’s “bad for their business”...
And to make things worse, they’ll try to convince you that they have the right to use your work without permission just because it was in public, as if repeating a lie long enough will magically change the law and make them right.
Then they’ll claim you wronged them, and that you should have “texted them first before publicly shaming them.” The audacity of these scums.
Anyway , here's what I suggest:
- Always document your work, email it to yourself, keep a record, whatever it takes.
- Register your copyrighted work with the National Library of Jordan. It’s a completely free service, there's no online process, you have to go in person.
- Learn the law, know your rights, and don't let those fools fool you.
- Talk to a lawyer to discuss possible actions.
- Publicly calling out the thieves is optional, but highly recommended if you want to make an example out of them.
Love,
MiG
