Elections Fundraiser

In 2024, my good friend Kawala came up with the idea of salvaging election signs from the streets before they ended up in a landfill and turning them into a pop-up art sale to raise funds for a nonprofit organization he runs.

We started snatching the canvases off the streets exactly at 00:01 AM of the elections day.

In just one hour, we collected over 20 canvases, took them back to his garage, and started painting the next day.

Faces and names were covered with base layer, removing the original message entirely.

The initial plan leaned toward some random abstract style, but the direction shifted after testing the first piece.

The final approach combined layered tag backgrounds with a robot character on top, with each canvas finished in a different colorway.

I played around and experimented with different colorways while Kawala focused on stencil work.

We secured a free spot at a local bazaar and sold most of the pieces.
People liked the work enough that we were invited to different bazaars,
a second, then a third.

To keep up, we had to produce another batch, which meant sneaking into a parking lot where the signs were being gathered before heading to the landfill.

The last remaining pieces from the project are now available through my store
